Overview

The BoletÍn Eclesiástico de Filipinas (BEF) is the official interdiocesan bulletin of Catholic Philippines and contains a detailed account of Papal documents and of the decisions & decrees of the Roman Congregations. The following are its predecessors in the Philippines: (1) BoletÍn Eclesiástico del Arzobispado de Manila which started its publication in 1876 by Archbishop of Manila Msgr. Payo; and (2) BoletÍn Oficial de Arzobispado de Manila in 1892 which disappeared when Spanish sovereignty in the Philippines ended.

The University of Santo Tomas took charge of the publication as per request of the bishops since Msgr. Guglielmo Piani, then the Apostolic Delegate of the Holy See in the Philippines, noted the absence of an official ecclesiastical bulletin.

Prior to 1960, the language of the Boletin was always in Spanish, except the official documents which were published in English. Today, the Boletin is still published bi-monthly by the University of Santo Tomas. It contains an editorial, documentation, features, canon law section, history section and homiletics

Over the decades, it has evolved into not only an official repository of Church decrees but also a valuable scholarly reference for researchers, theologians, and historians. Through its pages, the BEF reflects the spiritual, pastoral, and cultural life of the Catholic Church in the Philippines, preserving its rich heritage for future generations.

Instructions to Contributors

Guidelines for manuscript preparation and submission.

1. Potential contributors for BoletÍn Eclesiástico de Filipinas are reminded that the scope of the Bulletin is eccelesiastical and broadly archival. While we wish to inform the whole Church, our readership is largely clerical.

2. BoletÍn Eclesiástico de Filipinas encourages electronic submissions by sending the manuscript as e-mail attachments [using any of the following formats Rich Text Format (.rtf), or MS Word (.doc/docx)] to: eccpubli@mnl.ust.edu.ph. Contributions in hard copies and other correspondence may be sent to the editor, Clarence C. Marquez, O., c/o Ecclesiastical Publications Office, University of Santo Tomas, España St., 1015 Manila, Philippines. Every submission must be accompanied by the author’s curriculum vitae, which should be included in a file separate from the manuscript.

3. This bulletin may reprint articles that have already been published somewhere else provided that the necessary permission from the author and publisher is secured. Chronicles of pilgrimages and trips to holy places, and personal reflections may be considered for publication.

4. In preparing an article or feature for submission, authors should make sure that footnotes are numbered in one sequence throughout the article and are placed at the end of the article. Any convention for citation is accepted as long as it is consistently used all throughout the article. In making cross references to his/her own contribution, the author should cite the section numbers rather than page numbers in order to eliminate inconveniences in the resetting of pages.

5. Galley-proofs of articles are no longer sent to contributors.

6. Contributors, especially clerics, who may wish to publish homilies in an issue of the bulletin, should send their contribution not later than two months before the scope of the targeted issue. Please check a copy of Boletín Eclesiástico de Filipinas for samples of the homilies.

7. Submitted articles are reviewed by competent professionals and are subject to the approval of the Editor.

8. Anyone who has questions related to Canon Law may forward their queries to the Editor. The bulletin will try to solicit reply for those questions.

9. Canon lawyers who may wish to publish opinions on matters pertaining to Church laws may send their contribution to the Editor. The bulletin publishes one article on Canon Law every issue.

10. All submissions, solicited or not, shall no longer be returned to the author.
